Brash Higgins is Brad Hickey's wine label. In 2007 Brad, a New York City sommelier, swapped his wine knife for a pair of secateurs and came to work vintage in McLaren Vale. In true Aussie tradition, his name was summarily changed to 'Brash' which provided a ready alias to work under the radar – Brash Higgins.
DiFabio Estates Wines is a family owned and operated business situated in the heart of the famous McLaren Vale wine producing area of South Australia. The DiFabio family has a long history of grape-growing and winemaking dating back to the family’s Italian origin. Having soon immigrated from Italy our parents Giovanni and Maria purchased their first original vineyard in 1966 supplying premium quality grapes to some of Australia’s leading wineries. Today the family owns approximately 140 acres in both the McLaren Vale and Waikerie areas growing varieties such as Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Grenache, Mouvedre, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
The ochota barrels tale began on a surf trip, late 2000 along the Mexican west coast in a Volkswagen campervan. A final destination after traveling some of the world’s best wine and surf regions, Taras and Amber Ochota conceived the idea to make super premium wines back home in South Australia. The concept was to concentrate on the zenith variety of Mclaren Vale (Grenache) and the Barossa Valley (Shiraz), find an exceptional old vineyard site in each region and create plush, small batch, single vineyard wines. With the winery situated in Lenswood, and steep, high altutude, cool climate, north facing burgundian cloned Chardonnay over a rock base of quartz and ironstone, at 550 meters above sea level
