With 25 years of winemaking experience, Jim Chatto is also a senior wine show judge with over 18 years of experience across both regional and capital city shows, currently he is Chairman of the National Wine Show. In 1998 Jim moved to Tasmania as the inaugural winemaker for Rosevears Estate in the Tamar Valley. He fell in love with Tasmanian Pinot Noir, and a Tasmanian. In 2000 Jim left Tasmania for the Hunter Valley but began the Chatto label to continue his affair with Tasmanian Pinot Noir. Jim then spent the next six years searching for the perfect vineyard site. Warm, well-drained but in a very cool region, right on the edge of viticultural possibility. Planting began in 2007 and our first vintage from Isle Vineyard (2012) was released in 2013. In 2014 we released two wines - one exclusively from our vineyard known as Isle and the other a Huon Valley Pinot introducing a small amount of fruit from neighbouring vineyards in the mix with our own.
