94 points - Deep dark red. Lifted aromas, complex and full of dried, savoury spices like clove and cinnamon bark and star anise. Medium to full bodied, tightly wound with fine tannins blanketing the palate. Dark chocolate notes abound on the lengthy finish. Beautifully dense.

94 points - Bright deep attractive purple red. Cool climate, slightly sooty, slightly lifted aromas on the black fruit spectrum. Medium to full bodied, there is lovely density here, and a deep and satisfying plummy succulence. A uniqueness and sense of place even.

91 points - Medium dark red with slight purple. Briar, balm type notes. Palate is a bit austere, good acidity with dark fruit and a distinct savoury finish. Tingling minerality. I’m not quite there where Huon finds body and flesh: to me this tastes slightly lean, at best medium bodied and perhaps underripe. Enjoyable nonetheless. Later: with more air there is earthy soubois, or perhaps more accurately bitumen/tar. Terence says: sooty.

92 points - Had a bottle last night-Bought up 18 2014.The first bottle then was quite strange but last couple including this one are are light bodied with sweet pinot flavour and a bit savoury.No sign of going.Good mid week wine with duck/dumplings

94 points - Pale straw colour. Citrus and hints of buttery caramel popcorn on the nose. Sweet peach and citrus palate. I really like this, for me, medals well deserved.

93 points - Deep inky purple red. Smokey, savoury oak dominant aromas, although restrained and quite tightly wound. Medium bodied palate, very good focus and intensity, lots of oak, very tight, a little hard edged, a little firm and chaffy, but it has very good potential. Some elegance buried under the oak I think, just a baby. Would be interesting to see how it develops, whether it will show more complexity and character.

2013 Balgownie Estate Centre Block Shiraz

89 points - Dark red. Nose is a mix of dark boysenberries and oaky cloves, preparing the drinker for some concentrated oak extravaganza on the palate. On entry there is a touch of hardness, perhaps from the oak. Savoury style. Slight acid imbalance also. But the oak is just too dominant at this stage, with loads of grip. Revisit in 5 years. It's a good wine in the making. Potential to become a silver or gold ribbon once ready. At present you'd have to throw some very fatty chargrilled steak at it to work. Day 2: significantly improved. Much more harmonious, but still a tad sharp. Very clove driven.
