92 points - Inky purple red. The attractive nose has a core of tart concentrated blackberry, spiced plum pastry, bramble notes and is a touch heady. After time, the tartness in the nose softens to something more fresh and lifted. Sediment. Fruit driven palate is a medium weighted, supple, generous and mouthfilling blackfruit and smoke. Good balance however sweet, sour and tannins are loosely knit so it plays around in the mouth. Would be better if these were better integrated. The long complex finish features spiced leather, dark chocolate, toasted pastry, crème brûlée, black pepper, with twinges of sweet juicy sultanas. Not bad. 3rd day: nose tart and heady. Palate is quite thin, acidic and astrigent, somehow fallen out of balance. Finish still is the most interesting part of this drop with good oak.

Tasted on Fri, Oct 30, 2009.

On the palate very strong concentration. Great fruit. Oak still very crude, needs more time to integrate. Baroque in style. improves considerably after a while. This wine needs some time to come together. Once it does, it could be truly great. Try again in 5 years. Potential to be a 91-92 perhaps. There is something quite special about this wine. Intruiging creamy texture!
Day 3: no major improvement. Perhaps a bit more integrated. Spicy finish.

Tasted on Fri, Oct 30, 2009.
