92 points - I recall drinking this wine back in the early 1980s when it was called pinot chardonnay. Back then it was at the forefront of Aussie chardonnay, but was a bit disappointing to me as it was a bit fat and oaky - and it tended to fall in a heap after a few years in the bottle. It lacked integrity and substance. Today's version is leaner, more complex and improves with age. It still spends 9 months in French oak and that flavour lingers without detracting or distracting. A very good food wine and a fine chardonnay, though to my taste it doesn't match the best from Tasmania, Margaret River and Victoria. Full marks though to Tyrrell's for persisting with this and committing to continuous improvement.

95 points - Bright gold greenish colour. Very fine aromas, restrained yet intense and ripe. Beautifully put together wine, acidity is refined and enlivens the richness on the palate. Some green apple and caramel like notes, lees and barrel-work influencing the texture. Nice refinement, long finish.

96 points - Medium bright yellow with a lick of green. Fascinating nose, melon, lees, coconut, worked. Concentrated, powerful and lasting on the palate yet with great structure that is delicate and refined. What a mouthful of wine.

96 points - Pale green. Stonefruit nose. Extremely well balanced. Peachy, fine minerality. Good medium to full bodied style without anything out of place. Outstanding even at warm temperature.

94 points - Intense honeyed latte oak woven nose. Light yellow. Balanced but such a powerful palate or such a young wine. Full weighted but lightened by acidity. Very intense and very lingering. Powerful.

93 points - Cleanish green colour. Honey pear and peachy nose. Elegant coffee and caramel. Just the right bitterness. Perfectly judged lively acidity. Great complexity. But what style of Chardonnay is this? It doesn't matter, it's a great wine.

94 points - Bright pale gold with hint of green. On the nose, a deeply woven dark coffee and oak with a core of stonefruit and melon. Palate is highly concentrated unfurling in the mouth. Balanced but with such incredible depth. An unctuous weight framed by caramelly oak. Long finish on yellow peach and coffee.

93 points - Coffee nose of great intensity. Impeccable balance. Gentle and creamy, with dark caramel butter and peach. Extremely long finish on yellow peach. Rich and oaky. Amazing wine. To get to 95, this wine needs minerality and a touch more acidic verve.
