88 points - Cloudy medium purple red. Smokey, oaky, savoury aromas with a twinge of sour cherry. Hard palate with a very 'masculine' style, structural without much fruit nor charm. Stalky and staid. Hasn't improved with airing. Leathery. Second day: what a surprise; it has improved. The nose is dense and shows some mystery and complexity, liquorice and spice. Palate is still relatively firm, but impressively built, very savoury, peppery and earthy, earthbound and quite powerful. Traces of cassis. The acidity which stuck out a bit last night has softened. It has jumped up from 84pts.

Tasted on Tue, Jul 28, 2015.
